TMU CAREERS
Tent Makers Union
 exists because
Ministry is NOT a job for professionals.

This doesn't mean that people should not get paid for the work they do, but that the line between 'professional' ministry and all other forms of ministry should not exist.

Ministry is best done where it is needed, as it is needed, by whoever happens to recognize the need.

You were created by God for a series of specific, unique missions. There isn’t any question about your purpose. You are a missionary. The question is… are you ON your mission?

You have everything you need to minister to people who need to know that God loves them. The specifics will vary, but your mission will always be to share God’s love with others.

Tent Makers Union is a community of missional people like you. We want to encourage and support you in your ministry mission.

We want to help you become a stronger, more powerful influence.

We believe that the Lord’s prayer (Your will be done, your Kingdom come, on earth as it is in heaven.) is not a mantra or request. It’s a commitment. It’s a statement of intent.

We are committed to do God’s will. We are committed to bring God’s Kingdom to earth through our love and loyalty.

We’re looking for likeminded, committed Christians who are ready to live ON mission.

We are, by every legal and logical definition, a church. Yet we differ from almost all other churches in very significant ways.

For instance, we do not pay our employees and contractors based on the hours they work or the position they fill, but on the work they achieve.

If you work more efficiently and effectively than someone else, you should make more money than they do. Hourly pay penalizes competence and creates an incentive for complacency. Salary pay may stabilize the expenses of an organization, but at the cost of limiting the potential and growth incentive of each employee.

If you're held responsible for the work that other people do (you lead, motivate, and support their efforts) you should get paid based on their performance as well as your own. When they succeed, you should get rewarded. When they struggle, you should have incentive to help them improve.

Hourly and salary pay models generally discourage exceptional performance while rewarding and sustaining mediocre or subpar performance that should be improved.

Instead, all of our employees and contractors are paid according to what they achieve. Being efficient and effectively supporting others will provide you with greater consistent income automatically.

TMU Ordained Missionary

TMU is transforming the way mission work is done worldwide. We've taken a fresh, Biblical approach to the call God has placed on many people's lives, starting with our name.

Most missionaries spend nearly as much of their efforts attaining and retaining support as they do ministering to the people and communities God has called them to love.

In fact, the majority of missionaries quit the mission field within five years, citing the struggle to support the mission and their family financially OR the struggle to satisfy their primary supporting entity (the church or Christian organization that financially backs their mission) as their primary reason for their choice to quit.

TMU is changing that statistic with the unique and powerful way we support missionaries.

TMU Missionaries begin their careers by developing the ministry and people skills they need and applying those skills to grow TMU membership and develop passion and purpose in TMU members.

As they do, they earn residual income for their own mission. TMU missionaries earn a percentage of the membership dues of members they invite and encourage, and can also earn a percentage of the membership dues of members that other TMU missionaries invite and encourage.

The ONLY way to join TMU is by invitation. The only people who can invite new members to TMU are our missionaries.

At least 25% of all monthly membership dues go directly to our missionaries, providing residual income for our missionaries year after year. Once a missionary has developed the residual monthly income needed to fund their mission and take care of their family, they need only maintain their own TMU membership to retain their funding.

TMU missionaries are NOT accountable to TMU members. They don't need to justify or even report on their missionary efforts to the members who ultimately support their mission because those members are regularly receiving services from TMU mentors and ministers in exchange for their membership dues.

This frees up our missionaries to focus on their God-given mission, and not on financial support.

What does it take to become a TMU Missionary?

First, you must be a committed Christian. You must believe that Jesus died to provide saving grace for all people, and that all people have the opportunity to take that grace.

Second, you must believe in the mission and people of TMU. We do all that we can to inspire, equip, empower, and support Christians in pursuit of their God-given purpose. We do all that we can to ensure our members grow continuously and live in wholehearted devotion to God. We see complacency as the #1 tool our enemy uses against humanity, and we're fully committed to creating example after example of the power of living, working, and influencing others with every resource available, in the flow of God's love.

Third, you must value the love and grace of God above the judgement and division of people. This should automatically flow from those first two musts, but we state this emphatically because of the social and political pressures ever present in our current times. Many prominent Christian leaders have chosen to place politics, racism, nationalism, sexism, and plain hate above the love of God. And every time that happens, there are cameras ready to capture the moment, and influencers excited to point out hypocrisy, immorality, cruelty, and all forms of human failure that we are all susceptible to. We have no expectation of perfection. Our members will fail. Our leaders will fail. But let us strive toward God's graceful love with all we are, and pull each other along through failure, weakness and temptation as we do. The world should know us for our love for one another, and the overflow of that love to everyone we each encounter every day.

Fourth, you simply must believe that God has a powerful, significant mission for you. And you must be willing to pursue that mission to the exclusion of many other noble and pleasurable pursuits. You do not need a clear vision for that mission, we will help you with that. You only need to want it more than anything else.

Fifth, you must believe that God has a powerful, significant mission for everyone around you. And you must be willing to encourage, support, and empower others on their mission as you pursue your own.

You DO NOT need a specific background, education, or experience for this career.  We will provide everything you need to succeed.

You DO NOT need to know exactly what community you are called to. We will not dictate what community or people you should invest in, but we will guide you and support your prayerful missional choices.

TMU Ordained Mentor

TMU is transforming the way ministry work is done in the United States, and soon in other countries as well.

We've taken a fresh, Biblical approach to the call God has placed on every one of his children. This is reflected in our name, and the name of this position. A TMU Ordained Mentor is essentially a minister or pastor to our members, providing guidance and support. We use the term 'mentor' because we do not see this as a position of someone set apart from others for ministry, but someone who lives on mission in every aspect of their life, and instills this consistency in others.

In churches and denominations worldwide for centuries, a pastor or minister has guided and shepherded a local group of Christians with consistent physical gatherings weekly or more frequently.

While there is value in gathering together, much of this value is left unredeemed in the current church model. People gather but do not communicate intimately. They care but not with familiarity.

They love one another to some degree, but they put the majority of the burden of being available for each other on the pastor or minister. They also place the burden of their own spiritual well-being and growth on that same individual.

The result of these traditions is spiritual weakness and compartmentalized religion that permeates every aspect of Christianity today. Many Christians expect their pastor or minister to take all the responsibility for their spiritual growth, and live unfulfilled lives while completely missing the purposeful adventure God holds for each of them.

Our ordained mentors help TMU members fully live in the center of their God-given purpose. They regularly remind members that the responsibility for their own growth is theirs alone, and lovingly encourage and empower members to live their purpose fully.

55% of all monthly membership dues of mentoring members go directly to our mentors. Our mentors ensure the sense of belonging and growth that keeps members engaged and thrilled with their membership.

This provides for our members spiritually, and our mentors financially. It also provides means for our missionaries to serve and love the communities God leads them to without having to worry about money or satisfying fickle supporters. And, it builds a strong community of committed, growing, faith-filled Christ followers who love the people they encounter each day powerfully, and change lives regularly with God's love.
